How is it that no matter who we are, where we live or how we have been raised, we all have a sense that there is more to life than what we experience down here? Whether we want to admit it or not, there is a place deep inside of us where we long for more.
We are born with an insatiable thirst for purpose, fulfillment, greatness.
If any of us really believed that all there is to life is what we have down here, we would eventually go insane with the purposelessness of it all and the pain of the broken hearts all around us. And even if we nobly choose to believe that our work is in order to usher in the next generations, what is the point at the end of it all? For their bodies will die and return to dust as well. And their children’s too.
And if any of us really believed that all there is to life is what we have down here, we would not fight so hard for all that we esteem right, or against all we judge wrong. What would be the point? It all would end in nothing anyway.
Whether we like it or not, the seed of eternity has been deposited in each one of us. Whether we agree with is or not, it is in us. We don’t have a choice as to its existence. Some of us might choose to cover it up and hide it from our own eyes, inside and out, but the seed remains.
It cannot be killed, because eternity cannot cease. Ever. Eternity is eternal. Eternity is forever.
No, God did not play a bad trick on us. He always knows exactly what He is doing. The real question always remains the same: what are we doing with this eternal seed within? How will it grow? And where will our eternity be?
In the Alphabet of Life, E is for Eternity.
He has also set eternity in their heart. Ecclesiastes 3:11
